About The Author
James Kennedy is a Scottish author and tour guide with a lifelong love of the Highlands, its landscapes, its wildlife, and the quiet lessons found in both.
Years spent guiding visitors across Scotland brought him face to face with a Highland cow whose single horn set her apart from the rest of the herd. That encounter became the spark for Baxter the Highland Unicorn, James’s first children’s book, and the beginning of a series built on gentle storytelling and a message he holds close to heart: that what makes us different is often what makes us remarkable.
About The Book
Baxter the Highland Unicorn tells the story of a young Highland cow who looks a little different from everyone around him. Where others might see a flaw, Baxter learns to see something else entirely, a reminder that every one of us, no matter how confident or complete we may appear, carries something we wish were different.
The book was written from a simple belief: that true contentment comes from changing what we can, accepting what we can’t, and choosing gratitude for what we already have. Baxter’s journey is a gentle, warm-hearted way to introduce young readers to ideas of self-acceptance, kindness, and perspective, wrapped in the colour and charm of the Scottish Highlands.
It’s a story for children, but its heart is for everyone: be like Baxter, and let your own light shine.
